I am not clear on this point. If an item is sold does that item automaticly be deleted from the shop inventory whether there is one or many Or does this have to be handled manually?.

I am starting to like the creation process and also its ability to display active x componants in the description an image is great but sound and video, right on.

Is it also possible to put html in the shop header?. I tried with the [[[ ]]] seperators as in the description but no joy.

3 days of trial and so far impressed. What it cannot do I will add on, a bit like the form builder

That's a bummer. What if there is only one item and it gets purchased by another after it is sold and before the item can be removed. That would be a critical fault. I cannot believe that. That stops me dead if that is the case.

I may be fortunate in only trialing it. I will wait for other comments

I searched and found this from Scott

Right now the answer is no. If your inventory is depleted, you need to remove that from your cart.

Eventually we will add in more inventory management support. Right now we are concentrating on Taxes and custom styles.

It's a shame and I am afraid the possibility of selling the same single item to two people could cause all sorts of legal problems. I just do not need that kind of eventuality.

Looks like I will have to look for another system. I am so disapointed. That is a major issue unless you have an unlimited supply of an item.

I guess I saved $49

No legal issue, but it is a customer service issue and can lead to unhappy customers. The problem with controlling inventory is that you then need some sort of database to keep your items and quantities in. That makes the program more expensive, and more complex to setup. I really don't see them adding that to this software. They are working on a professional version, and it will probably include some sort of inventory control.

Craig,
No database required and in fact very easy to implement.

Enter qty in stock when you create the product listing (Qty field already exists)
Auto decrement upon sale
Do not allow sale of an item that lists Qty as "0"

As a vendor when you get new stock in it would be a simple matter to update "Qty" as part of your regular maint.

I can live with that. Now to see if I can implement that.

Could you be a bit more specific I see tree choices in quantity

Use default Qty
Use Qty Range .... to .....
Let buyer choose qty.

"Auto decrement upon sale" I cannot see how to implement this.

I am just populating the shop and am not ready to go live yet. I have tested it. and have it working in my browser. If I can get past this I am sold.

I am presently also trialing the Zen cart which does everything but the learning curve is steep and I would much prefer the ease of CC's version.

I like the syncronisation system it has and for my use would be ideal.

I have a week before the trial ends and I make the decission to buy.

I would really appreciate the steps to take to get it to auto decrement

When you say "inventory management" I think of the system telling me I need to order another one to sell, not just auto decrease item on hand until you get to zero. That's not really managing anything. If all you care about is selling just what you have on hand then your method would work. If you're talking about managing inventory, you need a database. Otherwise, unless you don't sell many items, the shop would be too hard to manage.

Terry,

My comments to Craig were in reference to what changes would be required (on the Dev's part) to the software. They are not changes that we as customers can implement in any way.

Craig,
Yes I see we are thinking in different veins. It is far more important to me that the software stop selling items I don't have then that the software remind me to order.

Rosey,

I can see where your idea would be OK for hobbyists with limited number of items for sale. But as a retailer stocking over 6000 sku's it is just not enough for me. There would be no possible way I could keep up with that kind of system on a daily basis. I will probably go with the pro version once they roll it out. Until then I am in no hurry to add my inventory to the cart. Since I only have ~50 items in the cart for sale right now I can handle it the way it is. It is more important to me they take care of the legal issue surrounding taxes first, and then tackle a shipping module so I don't lose any money shipping the items. This process will take some time, and CC will probably lose some customers that feel they can't wait for the particular feature they want now. But for $49, this software is worth waiting for. I do think CC didn't think all this through enough before they released the cart to the public, but they will never be able to satisfy everyone with a piece of software that sells for $49.
