Hi,

From support articles it says:
"To use the latest version of CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer you must be using Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher"

Can anyone tell me if sp3 is absolutely necessary and will I get problems using xp pro sp2 ?
Don't particularly want to install sp3 on the machine I'm using.

Also, I do not use IE except for occasional windows updates - is IE 8 definitely needed or can I just use opera, firefox and chrome?

Thanks.

You may use any browser. As for SP2. I would probably have some problems with the software, but is there a reason you do not wish to upgrade to SP3???

The old machine I'm using is nice and stable and nothing installed has needed anything other than sp2.
I've got an sp3 disk and granted sticking with sp2 is a trade off with security holes etc, but for the work the machine is used for, both hardware & software firewalls and various upto date security applications, I just tend to try and avoid fixing things that are working okay.

Just wanted to see if sp3 was absolutely essential (i.e. known issues) or just advised.

If there are definitely issues, I guess I'll just have to install the service pack.

Thanks.

Just install the new VSD and test it... If it is very buggy then you can download SP3...

My recommendation is for you to install all updates that are given by your computer maker and by Windows. It is not just for security but integrity of your system.

I'll give it a go with the current set-up and see what happens - can always revert if it goes pear-shaped.

I wonder if you get any windows updates at all with Sp.2. M$ says they don't support it any more, and who knows how much longer Sp.3 will be supported. My hunch is that as soon as Win8 is launched (said to be some time this year), XP will be abandoned alltogether.

This is the way they force us to buy new software, and also new hardware to cope with the new software, like it or not.

Not too bothered really as the OS is so old now that the only sensible option is to get a new system.
Skipped Vista and have considered W7 but it would mean replacing a crock load of applications to be able to take advantage of things like the integral graphics processor for video etc. Doesn't seem much point in buying a spanking new system only to run it in XP mode because I only have old software.

Know what you mean! That stuff got really old quickly, and once Macromedia got gobbled up by Adobe things did not improve on that front.

On the install front, I've installed VSD on the old XP SP2 sytem and it is running fine so far.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
