add then delete image in VSD - Post...

Some unexpected behaviour:

Select the 'add an image' icon
Navigate to an image and select it.
Click on page to add the image.
Use shift key to maintain proportions on resize.
Click save and open the htm file to view.
Decide I don't like the image.
Return to page and delete the image.
Save again and VSD generates output to the _website folder

...but, when I look in the files folder in the _website folder, the image that has been deleted from the htm page still remains as one of the files. Is this expected behaviour?

Thanks.

I would say yes... Because it should not remove the file from your computer it removes it from the HTML page. As for what VSD does that I am not sure. Make sure that you have deleted the image from VSD. Granted I am not a VSD User, so you may want to want on a VSD user to answer. :P

Thanks for the feedback - the issue is that it has left it in the output folder that would be published to the web server, not that it has not removed it from the computer.

When the image was first imported - it was browsed from the my documents folder, this made a copy in the VSD source folder and when VSD was 'saved', it appeared to generate the output in the subfolder xxxx_website, which, if I have it right, is the stuff you actually put on the server.

Interestingly, the image had been removed from the source 'files' folder, but still remained in the output _website folder - even after subsequent saves where VSD generates output based on info in the VSD and source folders.

Ah, ok... See, I am learning about VSD. :D Did you add this image to more than one page maybe?

No, it was just a test image because I was trying to work out how VSD handles files used in the project.

The reason for the test...? Yesterday I had created a folder and added files to it, but when I opened my test project today i wanted to continue experimenting with add folders and files to see if it would help me organise the site, but when I went Edit | Add files, the files i had added yesterday had vanished but the folder they had been in was still there. Which is odd because I'd also discovered that if you added a folder butdid not add any files to it immediately, VSD would delete the folder on closing the dialog.

Decided to remove the folder and try again assuming I'd messed it up somehow, but it was not possible to delete the folder (i.e. delete folder icon was greyed out). But if I tried to add another folder of the same name, it told me I couldn't because a folder with that name already existed.

Already started another thread asking about that functionality... the thing with the image insert was just me going back to basics.

I would suggest that you should open a ticket and get them to help and see if maybe it is an Error in the software.

What VSD does with images is a proprietary secret, so don't worry about how it handles them. Design your page the way you like it adding all the content then preview. If it looks good turn off the safety and pull the publish trigger then set back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Let VSD worry about the images and where they go. That's what the program is for removing ftp stress from user's lives.:)
